About MEATER Range

With the original MEATER, there's a single Bluetooth connection between the probe and your phone or tablet. In open air with no obstructions, the probe's Bluetooth range is 33ft/10m, but there are some variables that can influence the actual range you'll see during cooks:

  • Since the original MEATER probe connects straight to your mobile device, the biggest factor when it comes to range is your cooking appliance. Cookers with thicker metal walls, tight seals, and less vents can significantly impact the distance you're able to get.
  • Any added obstructions between the probe and your phone/tablet can limit the range. This includes things like walls, closed doors, and furniture.
  • If you have other Bluetooth or WiFi devices that are currently broadcasting, even these can disrupt your probe's signal.

Steps to Identify Range Limitations

If you're concerned that you're not getting the range you should be, we have a couple of things to look for.

1. Check for Damage

If the probe is damaged, this can have an effect on the range and signal stability. See if any part of the probe seems loose, or is able to wiggle or twist at all. If any part of the probe moves, please contact our Customer Support team right away.

2. Test Range

If you want to check whether you're getting the range you should be, try the following tests, ideally somewhere outside with no obstructions:

  1. Leave the probe on a non-metal surface, then slowly walk away with your mobile device, and note how far you can go before the probe grays out in the MEATER app.
    • For best results, stand the probe on its flat end, and try to hold your phone or tablet out to the side or slightly behind you so your body doesn't interfere with the signal.
  2. Leave your mobile device right next to the probe, and see if the connection drops off within 20 minutes. Try to keep a rough record of the number and frequency of disconnections if they happen.
    • If you start a mock cook first and have your sound on, you should get audible alerts when you disconnect so you don't have to watch the app too carefully.

Once you've done these tests, reach out to our Customer Support team and let your agent know the results.
