Cooking with your MEATER app is simple and intuitive. This guide will walk you through setting up, managing, and tracking your cooks, ensuring you get perfect results every time.

Creating a Cook in the MEATER App

1. Open the MEATER App

When you open the MEATER app, your probe will show "No cook set up." Tap "Set Up Cook" to begin.

You can choose from three cook types:

  • Guided Cook: Follow step-by-step instructions for specific proteins.
  • Custom Cook: Set your own target internal temperature.
  • Master Class Cook: Explore advanced recipes and techniques.

Continue with the steps below to set up a Guided Cook, which will guide you through the best cook for your chosen protein.

Custom Cook

From the "Set Up Cook" screen, tap the Custom Cook icon at the bottom. Set your desired internal temperature, and once the cook is finished, you'll proceed directly to the cook summary. Keep in mind that a Custom Cook will not provide you with a Resting Time estimate.

2. Select Your Protein

Choose the type of protein you're cooking from the options below. Note that available options may vary by region.

Note: If you don't see a specific protein, it may not be available in your region.

  • Steak: Sirloin, Rib Eye, Flank, T-Bone, Tomahawk, Filet Mignon, Picanha, New York Strip, Other
  • Roast: Roasting Joint, Tender ⟅loin, Brisket, Prime Rib, Round, Tri-Tip, Shank, Rump, Chuck, Sirloin, Other
  • Other: Ground, Burger, Rib, Meatloaf, Liver, Shin, Tongue, Other

3. Select Your Cooking Appliance

Choose the appliance you'll use for your cook, such as an oven, grill, or smoker.

4. Set the Temperature and Doneness

Select your cooking temperature and doneness level. The app provides USDA-safe temperatures and chef-recommended options under MEATER Recommends. The MEATER app will never recommend a temperature that isn't safe for consumption.

5. Name Your Cook

Give your cook a unique name by tapping the "Name Cook" field. This helps you identify it later in your cook history.

You can also assign a clip to the probe by tapping the clip icon on the right. If you need clips, you can tap the red "i" icon to shop for them.

6. Insert the MEATER Probe

If it is your first time using the MEATER app, the app will guide you through how to properly insert your MEATER probe and properly distance your dock from the probe. Follow the instructions for the best results.

7. Wait for the Cook Time Estimate

The app will estimate your cook time, which may adjust based on factors like whether your oven was preheated or if the meat was frozen. It will refine the estimate as it monitors temperature changes.

8. Let the App Do Its Thing

Once your cook starts, the app tracks temperature changes and adjusts accordingly. You can step away while it manages the process. When the temperature stabilizes, the app will provide an estimated completion time.

9. Remove & Rest

When your cook is done, the app will notify you to remove the meat from the heat. Let it rest as prompted, then tap the green "Ready" button to view the cook summary.

10. Review Cook Summary & Share

The cook summary shows details of your cook, including a reminder to clean your MEATER probe. Your cook is automatically saved to the MEATER Cloud. 

You can add notes, share your cooks, and include a picture of the meat and the cook data, this will be shared using the hashtag #MEATERmade!

Checking, Deleting, and Favoriting Previous Cooks

Easily manage your cook history with these steps:

Check Previous Cooks:

  • Tap the three dots at the top of the app, then select Previous Cooks. This shows only completed cooks.

Favorite a Cook:

  • Swipe right to left on a cook and tap the green heart to favorite it.

Unfavorite a Cook:

  • Swipe right to left on a favorited cook and tap the green heart to remove it.

Delete a Cook:

  • Swipe right to left on a cook and tap the red trashcan icon. Confirm to permanently delete it.

Adjusting and Cancelling a Cook

Tap the three dots in the top right during a cook to open the menu:

  • Adjust Cook: Return to the temperature selection screen to modify settings (see Step 4).
  • Cancel Cook: Select "Cancel Cook" and confirm with "Yes" to stop the cook.

Repeating a Cook

  1. Open the MEATER App.
  2. Select your probe as you would for a new cook.
  3. Access previous cooks:
    • Tap the three dots in the top right, or
    • Tap Start Cook, then select Previous Cooks.
  4. Choose the cook you want to repeat.
  5. On the cook summary screen, tap the Repeat button.
  6. Adjust the target temperature if needed, or tap Start Cook to use the previous settings.
