How to see and set up alerts in the MEATER App.
About Alerts
When you're cooking with the MEATER app, you can stay in control with alerts. At the bottom of the cook screen, you'll notice a bell icon. Tap this bell to open the alerts menu. Here, you’ll see any alerts the app currently has pending, and you’ll also have the option to create your own.
Setting Up a Custom Alert
To create a custom alert, tap the + icon in the top right corner of the alerts list.
This will bring up a variety of custom alert options you can configure to suit your cooking needs:
- Flare-Up Alert (Pro Series only) – You'll be notified if your grill or cooking environment experiences a sudden, potentially dangerous rise in temperature.
- Ambient temperature falls below – Set a minimum threshold to be notified if the ambient temperature around the probe drops too low.
- Ambient temperature rises above – Useful for catching flare-ups or unintended heat spikes.
- Internal temperature falls below – Great for monitoring resting meats or maintaining specific temps in sous vide-style cooking.
- Internal temperature rises above – Perfect for making sure your meat doesn't overcook.
- An amount of time has elapsed – Set a timer-style alert to check on your cook at certain intervals.
- Time before the cook ends – Get alerts a few minutes before the cook is projected to finish, helping you prep for the next steps.
- Repeat at an interval – Have an alert go off every set number of minutes for consistent check-ins or basting reminders.
Each of these alert types allows you to enter a specific temperature or time value. Just select the type of alert you want to set up, then the time or temperature at which the alert should go off, alongside its requirements.
Once saved, the app will notify you when the conditions of that alert are met during your cook.
Why Use Custom Alerts?
Custom alerts give you more control over your cook, especially for longer or more complex recipes. Instead of just relying on default doneness notifications, you can stay ahead of potential problems like fluctuating temperatures or missed steps, and make sure that the recipe you're following is done to perfection.
