MEATER recommends that you use standard alkaline batteries instead of rechargeable batteries in your MEATER charging docks. However, you can still use rechargeable batteries if you’re okay with some performance limitations.
Rechargeable vs Alkaline Batteries
The main difference between rechargeable and alkaline batteries is their power output. Rechargeable batteries typically provide 1.2 V, while standard alkaline batteries provide 1.5 V.
Due to this power difference, you may notice the following when using rechargeable batteries:
- Full Charge: In many cases, probes may not charge fully when using rechargeable batteries.
- Charging Time: Because rechargeable batteries have a slightly lower power output, they typically take longer to charge compared to standard alkaline batteries.
Using Rechargeable Batteries in a MEATER Block
In addition to the charging impacts mentioned earlier, if you use a MEATER Block, you might mistake the Block’s micro-USB charging port for a battery charger.
The MEATER Block’s micro-USB cable does not charge rechargeable batteries. The Block doesn’t have a built-in battery; the cord only powers the Block when plugged in. We recommend using it only as a backup power source during cooking.
