Device Compatibility and Permissions - MEATER Pro Duo

What's in This Article?

This article will show you what to do if you have a MEATER Pro Duo charger that isn't connecting to your phone or tablet.

About MEATER Pro Duo Connection

With MEATER Pro Duo, connection happens in 2 parts:

  1. The probes connect to the charger via Bluetooth.
  2. The charger boosts the signal to your phone or tablet over WiFi, which is what gives MEATER Pro Duo its extended range.

When the charger can't connect to the mobile device, you'll see 2 main symptoms:

  • Both probes will show as grayed out in the MEATER app.
  • The charger LEDs will continually blink green while the probes are undocked, indicating that the probes themselves are active and connected to the charger.

Steps to Reconnect the Charger

If the charger won't connect to your phone or tablet at all, we have a few things you can try.

1. Check Device Compatibility

If this is your first time using your MEATER Pro Duo, find out whether our app supports your phone or tablet.

2. Check Device Settings

Make sure you have Bluetooth turned on, and check that all relevant permissions are enabled:

  • For iOS devices, Bluetooth needs to be allowed specifically for the MEATER app. You can do this by going to Settings > Privacy > Bluetooth and flipping the switch next to "MEATER".
  • For Android devices using Android 11 or older, our app needs Location permission to scan for your MEATER devices. This is a requirement from Google that affects a lot of Android apps using BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy). To set this up:
    • Turn on Location services in your mobile device Settings menu.
    • Go to Settings > Apps > MEATER > Permissions and allow Location.
  • For Android devices using Android 12 or newer, Nearby devices permission needs to be allowed. You can go to Settings > Apps > MEATER > Permissions to turn this on.

3. Clear Communication Blocks

Try these few last steps to get your MEATER Pro Duo to communicate with the MEATER app:

  • If this is your first time pairing with any mobile device, use a different phone or tablet to see if MEATER Pro Duo will pair with that one instead.
  • If your MEATER Pro Duo is already paired with another mobile device, turn off Bluetooth on that other device while pairing to the new one.
  • Disconnect any other Bluetooth devices you have paired with your mobile device (headphones, speakers, etc.), and see if MEATER Pro Duo will pair while those are disconnected.
  • Reboot your phone or tablet, then try again.

Next Steps

As long as the LEDs are lighting up when you take the probes out of the charger, and keep blinking green when the probes are removed, your MEATER Pro Duo should be working as intended. If it still won't connect to the MEATER app, it may be for one of the following reasons:

  • There is a network connection issue, or MEATER Pro Duo is incompatible with your WiFi network. We recommend checking with your Internet Service Provider and your router manufacturer to see if they can offer any help. If you haven't done so already, you can also head to our No WiFi Connection article to check WiFi requirements.
  • There is a compatibility issue with your phone or tablet, in which case we recommend reaching out to that device's manufacturer for further help.
