This guide explains how to test the range of your MEATER Pro XL.
Understanding Range
The range of your MEATER Pro XL refers to the distance at which it maintains communication between its components. This includes the distance between the probe and the dock, as well as the dock and your WiFi network.
The range of your MEATER device can be affected by distance and obstructions, which may cause the probes to lose connection.
- Obstruction Example: Your probe may lose connection when you close the oven door or shut a grill lid, but it should reconnect once the lid or door is opened.
Range Expectations for Your MEATER Pro XL
The ranges provided below are based on open-air (unobstructed) conditions.
- Product: MEATER Pro XL
- Probe-to-Dock Range: Up to 33ft (10m)
- Dock-to-Mobile Range: Determined by your home WiFi connection
- Total Range: Up to 250ft (75m), dependent on WiFi
How to Test Your MEATER Pro XL Range
Your MEATER Pro XL uses both Bluetooth and WiFi to connect.
- Bluetooth connects the probes to the dock.
- WiFi extends the connection from the dock to your mobile device running the MEATER app.
For your WiFi-enabled MEATER device, the range between the probe and the dock is the most important. The WiFi range depends on your network strength, which can vary due to factors like the number of devices connected, interference from a neighbor’s WiFi, service interruptions, and more.
Probe-to-Dock Range Test
To maximize range, place your dock in an unobstructed area with a strong WiFi connection.
- Turn on your MEATER Block and set it to [Standalone Mode].
- Remove all 4 probes from the dock. Confirm they connect to the dock, shown by a Bluetooth symbol and a checkmark.
- Place the probes with the ambient ends pointing upward.
- You can insert the probes into a loaf of bread, a potato, or similar item.
- Avoid placing the probes on metal surfaces, as this can cause connection issues.
- With the dock in hand, slowly step away from the probes until the checkmarks change to spinning circles, indicating the probe is no longer connected to the dock.
- Pro Tip: Your body can interfere with the Bluetooth signal. Keep the dock in sight of the probe by walking backward or holding the dock to the side.
- Check the distance where the probes disconnected:
- Disconnects before 33ft/10m: Contact support to discuss replacing the probe(s) that lost connection within the expected range.
- Disconnects at or after 33ft/10m: Your probe is working as expected. Note that the device’s range can be affected by WiFi stability.
