This article will show you what to do if you have a MEATER Pro XL charger that isn't connecting to your phone or tablet.
About MEATER Pro XL Connection
With MEATER Pro XL, connection happens in 2 parts:
- The probes connect to the charger via Bluetooth.
- The charger boosts the signal to your phone or tablet over WiFi, which is what gives MEATER Pro XL its extended range.
When the charger can't connect to the mobile device, you'll see 2 main symptoms:
- All 4 probes will show as grayed out in the MEATER app.
- The probes will show check marks on the MEATER Pro XL screen while they're undocked, indicating that the probes themselves are active and connected to the charger.
- If the probes show spinning circles, this is more likely related to the probe-to-charger connection. If this is the case, see Probe-to-Charger Connection - MEATER Pro XL.
Steps to Reconnect the Charger
If the charger won't connect to your phone or tablet at all, we have a few things you can try.
1. Check Device Compatibility
If this is your first time using your MEATER Pro XL, find out whether our app supports your phone or tablet.
2. Check Device Settings
Make sure you have Bluetooth turned on, and check that all relevant permissions are enabled:
- For iOS devices, Bluetooth needs to be allowed specifically for the MEATER app. You can do this by going to Settings > Privacy > Bluetooth and flipping the switch next to "MEATER".
- For Android devices using Android 11 or older, our app needs Location permission to scan for your MEATER devices. This is a requirement from Google that affects a lot of Android apps using BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy). To set this up:
- Turn on Location services in your mobile device Settings menu.
- Go to Settings > Apps > MEATER > Permissions and allow Location.
- For Android devices using Android 12 or newer, Nearby devices permission needs to be allowed. You can go to Settings > Apps > MEATER > Permissions to turn this on.
3. Clear Communication Blocks
Try these few last steps to get your MEATER Pro XL to communicate with the MEATER app:
- If this is your first time pairing with any mobile device, use a different phone or tablet to see if MEATER Pro XL will pair with that one instead.
- If your MEATER Pro XL is already paired with another mobile device, turn off Bluetooth on that other device while pairing to the new one.
- Disconnect any other Bluetooth devices you have paired with your mobile device (headphones, speakers, etc.), and see if MEATER Pro XL will pair while those are disconnected.
- Reboot your phone or tablet, then try again.
Next Steps
If you see an "x" through the WiFi symbol on the MEATER Pro XL screen and you haven't already checked WiFi requirements, go to No WiFi Connection.
Otherwise, as long as the screen and touchpad are responsive and the probes show check marks on the screen when they're removed from the charger, your MEATER Pro XL should be working as intended. If it still won't connect to the MEATER app, this may be a compatibility issue with your phone or tablet, so we recommend reaching out to that device's manufacturer for further help.
