What does a "Connection Lost" alert mean?
If you see the "Connection Lost" notification during an active cook, it usually means there's an issue with the connection between your MEATER Probe, the app, and/or the dock. If no cook is active, the app will show the paired MEATER as grayed out on the home screen.
What causes a "Connection Lost" alert?
There are three main reasons you might see a "Connection Lost" alert. The screen displayed when the error occurs will help you identify the cause.
Docking the Probe During the Cook
Placing the probe back in the dock while a cook is in progress interrupts the Bluetooth connection and puts the unit in standby mode, triggering the notification.
Mobile Device Moving Out of Range
If your mobile device moves too far from the dock, the connection will be interrupted. You can find the expected range for each MEATER unit in your product's Support Guide.
WiFi Disconnected: For units that use WiFi, losing the WiFi connection on your device will also cause this error message to appear.
Probe Moving Out of Range of the Dock
If the probe is moved too far from the dock, the app will display the same notification with a different screen indicating the disconnect is in the dock-probe connection.
Troubleshooting Steps
-
Make sure the Probe Isn't Docked: Check that the probe is not in the dock during the cook. If it is, remove it from the dock and wait for the connection to reconnect.
-
Verify Range: Ensure that your mobile device, dock, and probe are within the Bluetooth or WiFi range.
-
Check for Interference: If you're experiencing connection issues, check for any physical obstructions or interference that might affect the Bluetooth signal. Walls or metal objects can cause interference. Learn more in the Faraday Cages & MEATER Products guide.
