MEATER Range

What's in This Article?

If your MEATER is disconnecting or not maintaining a reliable connection, the issue is often caused by distance, obstacles blocking the signal, or wireless interference. This guide explains how MEATER range works and provides simple tests to help determine whether your connection issue is environmental or related to a MEATER component.

Your MEATER's Range

MEATER products use wireless technology to send temperature readings from the probe to the MEATER app. Like any wireless connection, range can be affected by distance and physical obstacles between devices.

If you're experiencing connection issues during a cook, it doesn't necessarily mean something is wrong with your MEATER. In many cases, the signal is simply being blocked by the cooking environment.

Your MEATER device's range is determined by how it connects:

MEATER Plus · MEATER SE · MEATER Pro · MEATER Pro DuoMEATER Block · MEATER Pro XL

These products use two wireless connections:

  1. Probe → Dock
  2. Dock → Mobile Device

If either connection is interrupted, the app may temporarily lose communication with the probe.

These products connect the probe directly to the Dock. The Dock then communicates through your WiFi network and connected devices.

Expected Range

The ranges shown below represent maximum performance under ideal line-of-sight conditions, meaning there are no obstructions between the probe and devices.

Probe-to-DockDock-to-Mobile Device
MEATER PlusUp to 33 ft / 10 mUp to 165 ft / 50 m
MEATER SEUp to 33 ft / 10 mUp to 165 ft / 50 m
MEATER ProUp to 33 ft / 10 mUp to 217 ft / 65 m
MEATER Pro DuoUp to 33 ft / 10 mUp to 217 ft / 65 m
MEATER BlockUp to 33 ft / 10 mDependent on WiFi coverage
MEATER Pro XLUp to 33 ft / 10 mDependent on WiFi coverage

What Reduces a MEATER's Range

MEATER range expectations are measured under ideal conditions with a clear line of sight between devices. During normal cooking, obstacles can reduce the available range.

Common causes of reduced range include:

  • Closed grill lids
  • Oven doors
  • Walls and floors
  • Large metal appliances
  • Stainless steel cooking chambers
  • Refrigerators and freezers
  • Your body standing between connected devices

Example: If your probe disconnects when an oven door or grill lid is closed but reconnects when it's opened, the signal may be blocked by the cooking environment rather than a problem with the probe or dock.

Before contacting support, we recommend performing the range tests below. These tests can help identify whether the issue is being caused by your environment or by a component that may not be performing as expected.

How to Test Your MEATER Range

These tests help identify where a connection issue is occurring.

Depending on your MEATER model, you may need to test one or both of the following connections:

  1. Probe → Dock/Base Station
  2. Dock → Mobile Device

Testing each connection separately helps pinpoint where the signal is being interrupted.

Test 1: Probe-to-Dock Range Test
  1. Turn Bluetooth off on your mobile device. This ensures you're only testing the connection between the probe and dock.
  2. Remove the probe from the dock and confirm the green LED is blinking continuously.
  3. Place the probe upright with the ambient end facing upward.
    1. Insert the probe into a potato, loaf of bread, or similar non-metal object.
    2. Do not place the probe directly on a metal surface.
  4. Walk away from the probe while holding the dock until the LED changes to red.
  5. For the most accurate results:
    1. Keep the dock in sight of the probe while walking away.
    2. Your body can block Bluetooth signals, so holding the dock in front of you while walking backward often provides the most consistent results.
  6. Check your results:
    • If the connection drops before reaching the expected range for your product, the probe may not be performing as expected.
    • If the connection reaches or exceeds the expected range, the probe is communicating normally. Continue to Test 2 if applicable.
Test 2: Dock-to-Mobile Device Range Test

This test applies only to MEATER Plus, MEATER SE, MEATER Pro, and MEATER Pro Duo.

  1. Return the probe to the dock and re-enable Bluetooth on your mobile device.
  2. Open the MEATER app and confirm the probe connects successfully.
  3. Remove the probe and place it upright next to the dock.
  4. Walk away with your mobile device until the connection drops.
  5. To avoid blocking the signal with your body, place the mobile device down when checking the connection at different distances.
  6. Check your results:
    • If the connection drops before reaching the expected range for your product, the dock may not be performing as expected.
    • If the connection remains stable at or beyond the expected range, your MEATER is operating within its expected wireless range.
    • If the connection drops intermittently while within the expected range, perform a Stability Test to help identify environmental interference.
Tips for Best Results
  • Avoid placing the probe on or near metal surfaces during testing.
  • Keep connected devices within line of sight whenever possible.
  • Avoid standing directly between devices while testing.
  • Perform range tests in an open area with minimal interference.
  • Follow the LED indicators on your probe throughout the testing process.
